1.8 is nice and all, but the terrain generator still has some problems (ie. no snow), and it turns out it's going to be completely rewritten for 1.9 anyways, including new biomes.
I had planned on starting the world afresh for 1.8, but unless we want to start over twice, perhaps we should wait. However, in order to get some of that 1.8 goodness, what I could do is expand the boundary out to twice its current size. All the new land will be yummy 1.8 terrain.
The only problem is that old terrain doesn't play nicely with new terrain, and there'll be an awful slice-off between the two.
If anyone else has any thoughts/alternatives, leave a comment.
perhaps, we smooth out the seams by hand and pic?
ReplyDeleteThat would take forever...
ReplyDeleteWe are still probly gonna start a new world for 1.9

ReplyDeleteJust testing the 'Reply' button code I just added.
Also, did you accept the invitation to be an Author?
Pretty psyched for a huge map with some awesome railway systems/portal networks.
ReplyDeleteWe should also use this blog to vote on a favourite seed when the time comes to generate a world.
@Big Azza
ReplyDeleteI don't think we're gonna do another rail system. Gunar did a great job but it took so long, and only about a quarter was finished.
I'm pretty certain I can have a sophisticated portal system up pretty quick off the bat, so we can use it to explore.
I don't know if we'll have time to vote on 1.9 seeds. I presume we'll want to start immediately, and we won't know what they look like til 1.9 hits.
@callmemitchs
ReplyDeleteK pick a good looking seed for us then. I trust your decision. Get some ocean, desert, snow, etc for us.
@Big Azza
ReplyDeleteI won't be able to til 1.9, but it's pretty easy to try lots rapidly using creative mode. If a few people have a look i'm sure we can find a good one.
